Dialectical Behaviour Therapy is a comprehensive form of evidence-based psychotherapy that was developed to address the emotional distress that other therapies could not. DBT emphasizes a bio-social theory, which validates the reasons people respond the way they do based on the way their limbic system functions and the way their behaviours have been reinforced.
It encompasses an understanding of the function of emotions and it promotes the use of skills to enhance a person’s effectiveness in interpersonal relationships, to improve their ability to tolerate distressing situations, and to increase self-awareness.
DBT treatment can include the use of group therapy for cost-effective skills training and practice. See below for more information on DBT from our "Resources" page.
